Tidwell Jewelers…A Family Tradition!
In the early 1900’s, R.J. Tidwell was stricken with polio at the age of three. Despite the fact that the polio took away his ability to walk, R.J. was determined to live the American Dream. So, with much determination, R.J. opened up his jewelry shop in 1940.
Fascinated with the mechanics of watches, R.J. intensely studied all details of watch making. Not only did R.J. become an expert watchmaker, he diligently taught 7 of his relatives how to also be quality watch builders. From 1945 through 1955, R.J. invited his relatives into the family home so that they could live, eat and sleep watch making.Once they learned the business, many of these relatives went on to open jewelry stores throughout South Carolina.
R.J. Tidwell
Besides being known as an expert watchmaker, R.J. was widely known for his integrity as a businessman. Customers came from near and far to conduct their jewelry business with a man who gave fair deals. Sadly, Mr. R. J. Tidwell died in 1978, but the integrity so valued by R.J. is very much alive and well today at the Johnston, SC , Saluda, SC and Batesburg-Leesvile, SC locations of Tidwell Jewelers.

Today, Tidwell Jewelers is owned and operated by Danny Tidwell, son of R.J. Tidwell. Danny Tidwell, along with his wife Lynda and daughters Tracey and Lesley, make it their daily goal to live up to the fair deal legacy established by patriarch R.J.. Come visit us at our Johnston, Saluda or Leesville locations today…we are looking forward to making a life-long friend.
